Energy Performance Certification

Energy Performance Certification

With over 100,000 buildings requiring EPC assessment by the 8 December 2022 deadline, there is bound to be a backlog of applications to SANAS accredited Inspection Bodies. We are here to help you get ahead of the pack and make sure that your building complies with the EPC Regulations before the deadline. Getting an Energy Performance Certificate for your building does not have to be a daunting task. With the right partner and the right preparation, you can turn this mandatory requirement into a real opportunity for improvement.

If you are still unsure whether your building requires an EPC, have a look at the Criteria for Compliance below. If your building meets the three criteria, we suggest you keep reading.

EPC is mandatory for buildings in this criteria:

  • The building’s predominant occupancy class is one of the 4 listed below.
  • The building is larger than 2000 square meters (if privately owned) or 1000 square meters (if owned by an organ of state).
  • The building has not undergone major renovations in the last 2 years.

Office Space

Occupancy comprising offices, banks, consulting rooms and other similar usage.

Place of Instruction

Where learners, students or group of people gather for the purposes of tuition or learning.

Entertainment and Public Assembly

Where people gather to eat, dance, or participate in other recreation.

Theatrical and Indoor Sports

Where people gather to view theatrical, orchestral, or indoor sports performances.

Our Energy Performance Certification Journey with you

Our point is not to have you comply, but to ensure that the work done digs deep into hidden opportunities for income earning and resource efficiency. Our 4-level process (Below) ensures that value is derived from these opportunities.

Level 1: Consultation and Data Collection

The idea of starting the process off with a consultation is to ensure that all parties understand their roles and responsibilities from the outset. A major part of this consultation is data request. The first inspection activity that forms part of our EPC process is the analysis of the relevant data, being data relating to the size, occupancy class and energy consumption of your building.

Level 2: Detailed Inspection

If the data that you provide is extensive enough for the purposes of your building, then our Inspection Team can start with further analysis and verification of the information that you have provided. If, however, the data provided to us is insufficient for purposes of a SANS 1544 Energy Performance Certificate, we will need to do something about that.

Level 3: Detailed Calculations and Reporting

Once we have completed your EPC report, all that is left to do is for us to issue you with an Energy Performance Certificate. This is the certificate that you are required by law to publicly display at the entrance of your building. YOU must submit the certificate to SANEDI- however since we promise to help you till the end, we will take care of this to make sure that all of your compliance obligations are fulfilled.

Level 4: Certificate Generation and Approval

Once we have completed your EPC report, all that is left to do is for us to issue you with an Energy Performance Certificate. This is the certificate that you are required by law to publicly display at the entrance of your building. YOU must submit the certificate to SANEDI- however since we promise to help you till the end, we will take care of this to make sure that all of your compliance obligations are fulfilled.
